A Guide to Your Rights at the Border

Did you know that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) can randomly search your electronic device(s) (and your files) at the border? Or that being a single man travelling alone increases your chances of being searched by the CBSA? Or that you could be arrested for refusing to provide the CBSA with the password(s) to access your devices?

The BC Civil Liberties Association and Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic recently published a guide with respect to privacy rights at the Canadian border and US preclearance zones in Canada. This guide provides some interesting information regarding the CBSA's policies and useful tips for safeguarding your privacy when crossing the border.
